About

Britt McCormick has been successfully training horses and riders for the past 25 years. Born into an equestrian family, he grew up on a hunter/jumper horse farm and began riding as a child. He is an accomplished rider, trainer, a USEF Course Designer, and an active member of the USHJA and USEF (serving on multiple national governance committees). Britt and his wife Rachel opened Elmstead Farm in 1997.

Horse training at Elmstead is based on the philosophy that each horse is a dynamic and complex individual, and that the training process can not be rushed or forced. Britt’s success can be attributed to his riding and teaching skills, but also to his experience in designing a unique training program for each horse. Britt regularly evaluates a horse in the ring and in the barn. He works with the owner, veterinarian and farrier to implement a plan that consistently builds upon a horse’s strengths, confidence, and suitability. New challenges are gradually introduced and reinforced so that a horse will naturally achieve it’s potential over time.

Britt’s methods allow for a horse to be very successful and happy in the show ring.  But show ring success is not our solitary goal.  Our methods of horse care and training foster general soundness and confidence so that a horse will be successful, safe, and rideable for many years into the future.

Riding instruction at Elmstead Farm is based on the riding, equitation, and horsemanship principles set forth by former successful horsemen such as Bill Steinkraus, Jimmy Williams, and George Morris. Britt emphasizes simple yet effective techniques for properly communicating with the horse. Britt’s goal is for each rider to become an effective and independent horseperson, while gaining the experience, riding skills and confidence needed to succeed in the show ring.

The driving force behind everything at Elmstead Farm is concern, love, and appreciation for the animals, joined with a passion for helping riders achieve their goals within this fantastic sport.

The comfortable private farm, years of training experience, horse management expertise, and highly professional atmosphere make Elmstead Farm one of the most successful show stables in Texas.
